If you’ve been following my domain-buying adventures for a while, you already know I’m obsessed with pure geo domains. They’re my favorite category to chase, collect, and build around. Today I finally added a monster to the portfolio: Yonkers.com, and honestly, I’m hyped about this one.
This deal has been in the works for about 2 years. No exaggeration. I’ve gone back and forth with GoDaddy’s brokerage team more times than I can count, trying to get this thing to land at a price that felt right. The lowest they ever floated to me was $75,000, which just wasn’t the move at the time.
Fast forward to recently. Out of nowhere, a GoDaddy broker, Matt, who has sold me plenty of good domains, reaches out and basically says, “Give me your best offer.” So I did. I threw $25,000 on the table. A few days later, boom: counteroffer at $50,000.
I thought about it for a minute, pushed up $10k, and they accepted $35,000. Honestly, for this name? That’s a steal. Yonkers has a massive population, a real economy, and a strong identity. It’s one of those cities that’s big enough to matter but still underserved digitally. To me, that’s the sweet spot.
After I locked it down, I got curious and checked NameBio. Turns out Yonkers.com actually traded hands years ago in an expired auction on SnapNames.com for $70750, and the winning bidder was Vertical Axis Inc, which is tied to OG domainer Kevin Ham. The man has been in the game forever, so it makes sense he scooped it back then. Pretty cool to see the history on this name and know I’m now holding something that once sat in his portfolio.
